Beginners Guide to Acupressure

Acupressure Basics

Acupressure is a form of traditional Chinese healing that has been around for thousands of years. The technique was said to have originated from acupuncture, which is a healing technique wherein needles are used to stimulate different pressure points in the human Acupressure in a spabody. Acupressure on the other hand uses physical pressure to stimulate the same pressure points.

Acupressure works on the principle of balance within one’s body. This balance is achieved by stimulating pressure points to regulate the flow of Qi. According to traditional Chinese medicine there are 14 main channels on the human body where qi flows. Occasionally blockages are believed to occur in these channels and using pressure on specific points can remove these blockages.

The human body is said to have about 500 different pressure points and each pressure point is associated with an organ or organ system; thus any form of illness can, theoretically, be alleviated by using acupressure.

Different tools can also be used to facilitate the practice of acupressure. These tools include acupressure mats, energy rollers, spine rollers, foot rollers and acu balls. Acupressure is also closely related to Shiatsu massage which uses movements that are intended to stimulate different pressure points.

Acupressure is an effective way of providing relief for muscle pains and helps the body to relax. It is also reported to be one of the best ways to alleviate stress.
