Starting a Career Path as a Masseur

If you are contemplating becoming a masseur in either the relation sector or sports injury arena, then you will need certain qualifications due to the specialised techniques that are Masseuse jobsused to  help relax and manipulate muscles. On top of this, you may also need to learn additional fields such as reflexology, aromatherapy and sports medicine depending on the area you are hoping to work in.

There are several ways to become a masseur, but many of them will require you to complete a training program that is available at a number of colleges and technical skills. While this course may take up to a year to complete, you will then be fully qualified to be a masseur, gaining any professional qualifications needed, such as the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage. These qualifications will be required by many health clubs or spas looking to hire new masseurs so taking a course or training program is essential.

Due to the personal nature of massage and working on a one-to-one basis with your clients, it is also important to have decent interpersonal skills and a friendly manner. As you'll be manipulating the client's muscles, it is important that you are capable of putting them at ease and making them relax.

This is what many employers at spas, hotels and health clubs will be looking for as well as any qualifications. However many masseurs have discovered more money can be earned if they are self-employed. If this is the route  you are considering then is important that you have basic accounting and money management skills.
